Everyone Knows it's Windy

I think we now live in one of the more windy places in the country.  It is really, really windy here, a lot!  It's whipping out there right now, so I'm playing on the computer procrastinating my walk.  I'm really having a hard time dressing for long walks.  When I'm running, I know I'll heat up right away.  If I'm not freezing the first 10 minutes or so, I'll be too warm for the majority of the run.  With my (lame) walking, I'm not really creating much body heat since I'm not working too hard.  I went a bit over 8 on Wednesday and was freezing the first half, into the wind, I just never warmed up until I flipped around.  The first couple of days walking I was pumped to be out there, now I just want to be running.  I had a rough hit of reality on my 8 miler, I flipped around and looked at my watch at just over 4 miles and realized that men have run faster half marathons than I just walked four miles.  OMG.

One thing I need to get over is my fear of mountain creatures!  I worry so much about mountain lions, I know they are out there and they are just in my head.  Bears, wolves, coyotes, deer, elk....not scary to me, giant kitties--yikes!  I have lived in South Florida way too long.  I never used to think about that kind of stuff when I was a kid in the woods, now I spend way too much time on my walk listening for scary stuff.  I had myself convinced there weren't any out there until I talked to a lady who walks the trails everyday and she said people see them all the time.  One guy had one run right in front of him on the Tower Trail a couple of days earlier (I had JUST come from there when she told me that!).  Ahhhhhhh.  I need to find someone to walk (and eventually run) with me everyday, safety in numbers!  So, if anyone doesn't work and had a few free hours everyday and wants to walk with and protect me, let me know!  I need to find a blog post titled "How Not to Look Delicious to a Mountain Lion" :)

I've been walking with Suunta, since having another soul with me makes me feel better (and I can have conversations with her to keep me occupied) :).  I got her a backpack so she can carry some stuff for me (extra gloves, hats, water for us!), she loves it!  She is such a little trail blazer, she rocks out there!  When the trails are had to find (to me) she know exactly where to go, it's amazing!

Hip-wise, same old same old right now.  It's a tiny bit sore from all the activity, but I'm making good progress.  As long as I don't have to close my hip angle I feel great!  That movement is still a huge source of pain :(.  I swear, I'm never going to reach the handlebars of my P3 again.  I had a super tight adductor and PT worked on that yesterday...that hurt and I feel really tender there today.  I'm surprised it's not all bruised this morning and I won't be shocked if it turns many shades of black later today.  This is the muscle that was spasming constantly the first couple of weeks after my surgery.  He's a pain in the butt (well, the inner thigh)!
